Under the Constitution Act of 1982, amendments to the Canadian Constitution require the consent of two-thirds of the provincial legislatures representing at least 50% of the national population. We would essentially make a tender offer to 12 million of the country’s registered voters offering them $1 million in tax-free U.S. dollars to support an amendment to their Constitution dissolving their sovereignty and annexing themselves to the United States of America.

Just yesterday, a Dallas Morning news blog entry titled “Good News Alert” talked about how the freefall in the economy was slowing down.

Well, I’m here to tell you that unfortunately, the freefall is just getting started:  The Financial Times (and just about every other publication out there) is reporting today that the US economy contracted 6.3% in the fourth quarter of 2008 alone:

The US economy shrank in the fourth quarter at its fastest rate since 1982, revised official figures showed on Thursday, as corporate profits fell at the sharpest pace in 55 years and jobless claims continued to climb.

The final GDP figures were expected to show a contraction of 6.6 per cent, but the results signal that a deeper contraction could be coming this quarter.

“All the incoming data suggest that the economy will contract by a staggering 7 to 8 per cent in the first quarter, before the economy begins to stabilise,” said Nariman Behravesh, chief economist at IHS Global Insight.

Since 1999, Operating Expenses at Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) have far outgrown Operating Revenue.  Operating Revenue comes in the form of fares from bus, rail, and paratransit users, as well as other miscellaneous revenue sources, mostly advertising and leases.  As the following graph shows, Operating Expenses from 1999-2008 have gone up $215.9 Million dollars, while Operating Revenue has gone up slighty more than ten percent of that amount: $23 Million dollars.
