On Friday May 25th, Steve Serin confronted his older brother Casey Serin on Casey’s own talkcast to have him face reality.
As usual, reality was a concept as foreign to Casey as the truth.

Why even ask?? I swear, why even ask what I’d like with my coffee, if you’re still going to give me the same wrong thing? Honestly, what’s the point? And it’s not like it’s the first time you’ve done it. You do it every time. The first two times, I called you on it, told you that I had asked for cream and Sweet & Low, but you had just given me sugar. Today, I just looked into my bag, sighed, and drove off thinking, well, that probably why you still work at a drive-through: complete inability to follow directions.

Gen-X created the computer boom. You can say it was Bill Gates, but it was we, the disciples of the Atari2600, we who had Apple IIe’s, who truly created the revolution. We had the chance to really change the world, and we blew it. Maybe we can burn the Pets.com sock puppet in effigy.

Things have been so good for you for so long, you are not going to have any idea how to deal when things turn to shit, and mommy and daddy can’t bail you out. And it’s coming. I know, I know, I am a mean person, a “hater”, for not presenting life as anything but rosy. Don’t worry, you are all special, beautiful little snowflakes, and I want to kiss you all on your precious little heads. Want to write a Best Selling book, but don’t know just what it takes? Don’t worry, apparently no one does. Not even the great big publishers whose livelihoods depend on it.
According to a NY Times article North Country movie Running on Empty Dreams dvd National Treasure: Book of Secrets trailer
no one really knows which books will make big hits, and which ones will fizzle out and fall flat at bookstores.
“It’s an accidental profession, most of the time,†said William Strachan, editor in chief at Carroll & Graf Publishers. “If you had the key, you’d be very wealthy. Nobody has the key.â€
It’s really scary, when you think about it: Big publishers control shelf space in most major bookstores, and it’s next to impossible to get shelf space if you’re self-published, unless you pay for it. James BeauSeigneur, a former intelligence analyst for the National Security Agency and newspaper publisher, had to self-publish his Apocalyptic series “The Christ Clone Trilogy”
because no publisher would take his books. After the books sold extremely well, a division of Warner Brothers eventually picked up the series for a second printing and a wide release.
What about those of us who don’t have the means (financial or otherwise) to self-publish? The worst part of this sad story is that us book readers have probably been denied many wonderful books, because of the inefficiencies of the Book Publishers:
