reflections on a tame life

today i sit in my little office cubicle like a well-behaved and good little boy. only two more days until friday! (but another 24 years of work after that)

so this is what’s become of the human race? once upon a time we actually fought dragons and did important shit like that. now we ride around in SUVs and wait for the sales at Best Buy. what a dull existence. but maybe I am being too romantic: probably most people DIDN’T fight the dragons. they, too lived dull and uneventful lives and only a FEW people fought the dragons. most of the regular folk just died of the black plague or some other anciet disease. (it’s funny – how some people believe in reincarnation: they always seem to think they were cleopatra or some other notable in history. i’ve never heard one of those people be realistic and say, “i was prolly some poor loser who got kicked by a horse at the age of 12 and then died”).

but maybe i should be greatful to sit in a cube. it’s quite tame and low-drama. and isn’t that the point of civilization? the days of long ago might have required me to fight hard battles every single day: climbing trees to gather berries…or maybe cutting off my own foot to save the rest of my leg from gangrene because the nearest doctor is a day’s ride away by horse (and my family couldn’t afford the horse).
